Description

The provision of adequate shade has shown to be an effective environmental intervention to reduce the burden of skin cancer in Queensland, reducing UVR exposure by up to 75%. 

Cancer Council Queensland is excited to launch the Portable Shade Project for 2025. If your organisation meets the eligibility criteria listed below, we highly encourage you to take the time to apply for a portable shade marquee to provide sun protection for children in your organisation and in turn, reduce skin cancer rates.  

Pre-application check list 

Is your organisation eligible? 

  • Are you a Queensland organisation? 

  • Does your organisation cater to children aged 0–18-year-olds? 

  • Are you a not-for-profit organisation and have proof of your organisation’s not-for-profit status? 

 

What steps does my organisation need to take to apply? 

  • Create a user account with SurveyMonkey Apply by clicking on the ‘Apply Now’ button *You will be able to save and edit your application form as you progress and complete it over multiple sittings 

  • Provide a current SunSmart Policy 

  • Provide current proof of Not-For-Profit Status or Australian Business Register search results 

What you can apply for: 

  • Portable shade marquees (3m x 3m) with one wall 

Judging considerations 

  • Application has been submitted on time with all required documentation and information provided. 

  • Organisation meets eligibility criteria 

  • Justification for marquee and proposed use of marquee 

  • SEIFA and ARIA indexes
